i already took the class and here was one thing that the class had WEEKS of debate about.
would you invest in a company's stock which will definately triple if not more but uses child labor in a third world (if there's a forth, this country would definately be it) country.

id just like to put it out there, these kids arent slaves. they chose to work for the money, yea the money is crap, and they work their butts off, but they are still there of their own free will(and if their paretns are forcing them, then its their parents fault, not the company's)

to be honest, i actually asked my mom about it. we're vietnamese (i was born in the states however) and she said that a lot of the "sweat shops" arent really that bad. the conditions arent what it is stereotyped to be. my mom claims that a lot of families wouldn't have jobs otherwise. so keep buying those nikes....they support families haha.

I would if it its worth, but if they are using children for labor, if they get caught they will probably just pay some fines and everyone will forget about them. So I think its worth it to keep buying their stock.

well I personally dont see the problem with child labour in the third world that would be stopped i the corporations employing the kids leave, simply because then the kids will lose their jobs and starve to death. How is putting them out of work gonna help them?
what about our on fucking country. Our economy is based on outsourced merchandise.....form countries that dont buy our own(very few ) products.
so i wouldnt buy the stock, not because of the sweat shops, but for the sake of our countries future.

It's one thing if they work in the US, but the company takes advantage of the difference in economies and laws to make money, which hurts our economy. If these workers were in the US laws would be in place to pay them equal wages and the companies wouldn't benefit from them nearly as much. It's really on the foreign government to get their shit together and help their own citizens.
