losing power.

hey guys, my bug is starting to lose power and im wondering if the clutch could cause that? the guy i bought it from changed the clutch out before i picked it up and i dont think he adjusted it right. could that cause it to lose power?

Does it seem like the clutch is slipping with the engine running normally?

well, if by slipping you mean that when its in neutral and i let teh clutch out, it moves forword then yes.

I think if it's slipping, the car moves less while the engine sounds normal.

hmm, my bug is pretty stiff on take off(no slippage apparently). i know it REALLY needs an oil change and new spark plugs, maybe they're just getting worse and causing some power loss.

yea its probably not the clutch. the clutch will only grip, and if it grips at 100% thats no loss of power, thats what its supposed to normally do. probably something else, vacuum leak, maybe something w/the carb, does it misfire? if its misfiring it may be the plugs

yeah i know it miss fires and needs new plugs. and i was thinking about it a while ago, and it was running better when i first brought it home so i think the plugs are getting worse or something. they will be replaced tomarrow.

well i changed the spark plugs and still didnt have the power it used to, so i went through everything i could think of and found that the throttle cable apparently came loose and it wasnt giving me full throttle when i stepped on it. fixed it and now its back to its wheelie popping power crazy self :) lol.
