community build?
hey guys, i have a neat, and possibly fun idea.
this would involve donations, and massive amounts of my time. i dont know if you guys would be for this idea or not, but its worth a shot.
how would you guys like to do a community build/restoration of a (cheap) car? i would spend my time building it, as long as you guys donate some cash for parts. now, once the car is complete it will be sold on ebay, half going to a charity and half going to unitedbimmer. or the full amount going to charity. we would have to discuss the type of car, but i would like to do a vw beetle. mainly because i can work on them easily, and because parts are extremely cheap. i have found one localy for $900, engine runs fine, interior is OK, but has rusty floor pans($70 for new) and no headliner($30 for new). its a 1965 sunroof beetle(RARE) and when finished it would sell for anywhere from 5K-12K
if everyone OK's it, i have the time, truck, and trailer for it.
yeah, a Bimmer would prolly work better for this site, especially because most supporting vendors are bimmer-specified
although the bug you're thinking about is quite interesting. Sunroof bugs really are rare...

yeah, i dont think i could work on a bimmer. well, i probably COULD as long as it dosnt need any engine work or whatever, but it would take alot more time and money. an e30 wouldnt be so bad besides, beetles are still german and the parts for beetles are 100X cheaper then parts for bmws. that was my thinking when i sugested the bug.

LOL. thats funny. do you have any mechanical skill at all? i pretty much rebuilt my last vw bug from the ground up untill i lost my job and had to sell it, and my dad is an ex-mechanic incase i need any extra help.
how about on old vw dune buggy?
it looks identical to that one,but it has the same problem my last bug did, brakes are locked up, which would take me about 30 minutes to clear that up. paint is good on it, just needs some interior parts (wont cost more then $80) and i could probably pick it up for about $500. i know the guy that ownes it and he told me he would sell it to me for a good price if i ever wanted it. let me know what you think.

if you want to learn how to work on a car, start with a bug. those things are extreamly easy to work on and you will learn ALOT while just tinkering with it. i mean, they may not be the best looking or the fastest when stock, but with some small upgrades they can look fantastic and be doing wheelies in no time with a motor swap
