^^They said it's a lot simpler than that. The 4 quadrants mean nothing and only reflects the colors of Bavaria :dunno

^^ That's the best reason I could find online. All I found is that the circular pattern came from the first german aircraft engine maker Rapp Motorenwerke and like you said the blue and white checker from the Bavarian flag. Pretty pitiful that I don't actually know.

^^^ i dunno. i have a 2001 3er book thingy, the one you get from bmw dealers that show all the options for the car and what colors, etc.
on one page, it had all the various incarnations of the roundel, and one was an old one from the 20's/30's that showed the roundel in the propeller of a bi-plane. |
