Where are you from and what do you do?

Well I figured since I've been here awhile and still haven't really introduced myself and I haven't really gotten to know anyone I thought it would be cool to see what everyone's background is and what they do.

I'm from a military family and moved around alot when I was young. Now I'm studying Marine Engineering Systems at the US Merchant Marine Academy. Basically I'm training to become a glorified mechanic. Here this will give you an idea of what I'm going to work on.

Also my first and only bimmer so far was the one I rescued from my parents, a e30 325i. Even though my family is the third owner of the car it still runs great and only has 222800 or so miles on it. Basically working on the car has made me appreciate bimmers to the extent that I never want to own another car. My goal when I graduate is to simply rebuild everything and maybe add a few mods instead of buying a new car.

Anyway so that's it for me what about all of you?

P.S. if you were wondering, the merchant marine is not the Marines... I don't see why so many people get so confused.

Lol I just realized I never even did an introduction thread. I live in AZ and am a full time student. I got my car several months before I could even get my permit and love(d) her to death, even with the flaws. After high school I want to go to college and major in international business. Once I get some cash flow I am going to start several different businesses. Thats pretty much it. So what is the difference between the merchant marines that the marines. I have never really payed any attention..

I'm just a student, doing my final (13th) year of "high school" here in Germany. After grad I want to do a mechanic lab internship at our local university (one of the best in the country) and then work for about half a year and spend some time abroad (thinking about Sweden). After that, so in Summer 2009, I want to go to University of Karlsruhe (even better) to study industrial/business engineering... and I want to start my own company, even already have a concept for it
My bimmer has been (ab)used by my bro for some time, when his eta wouldn't work. My family bought it from the first owner, and I like to call myself the second owner b/c even though the Touring has been driven occasionally by my parents and my bro (whenever they needed a car they didn't have to worry about making it dirty or w/e) I was the first to discover its true power

Ah cool. The Merchant Marine is basically merchant sailors. Marine as in maritime as in sailing. The reason why they have the academy is to train merchant sailors who can handle the logistical support of the navy in an all hell breaks lose scenario. As a Marine Engineering Systems major I'm being trained to operate and maintain todays supertankers, container ships, ro-ro's (roll on roll off basically a ferry), and so forth. The systems portion of my major focuses more on the design aspect of these ships so I end up with a good hands on experience and the knowledge of the physics behind everything. And basically a Marine is a trained killing machine that lives mostly on land. So I'm mostly a civilian but I end up an officer in the navy reserve or active duty in any branch of the military, an option only this academy has. If you want to look it up go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usmma or here http://www.usmma.edu/.

I'm From Michigan I just graduated from school in may, I'm the 2nd owner on my bmw (my parents were the originals) and it has about 142k on it. I have a finance degree but currently work for a small company and work onsite for ford in dearborn doing more marketing and market planning type of actions, we also map data and can make some cool maps showing all kinds of data. I am looking to expand to a different job or find new clients at my current job (so I can drive a bmw in peace). I might like to go get a masters in europe within a few years.

I'm right across the river in Jersey City, NJ. I'm an exhibit designer & fabricator for a science museum (www.lsc.org). But I'm currently going through a mid-life career change, studying respiratory therapy, doing my clinicals at night at a local hospital here.

Awesome best of luck for your career change. I haven't had a chance to hit up the museums yet. I was planning on doing that the next chance I got.

born in england, now live in newark, delaware.

I am in college, and am doing marketing. I work at a hardware store to make some $ on the side for my car projects. I am also taking a few auto classes at night to help me learn about rebuilding the motor I have in my garage.

im originally from new jersey but lived most of my life in maryland. im married and have a baby on the way. I joined the army in 2000 and spent time in Iraq between 2003 and 2005. I have owned two E30s. The first was a beige slushbox that was lost to a rear end. after that i got my current E30. both ran really well and i have very few problems. I am in school for Computer Information Systems - Networking and will graduate this coming spring, and have been already accepted into the school Masters program for Computer Forensics. I hope to quit working at telephone help desk jobs and get into actual network admin/engineering type work. I like chicken and shooting (weapons, pool, a basketball, etc) and really love technology and bimmers. always and forever. . .

that is a big ass engine. very cool.

Im at a JC in Santa Rosa CA. Transferring into the business program at Sonoma State next fall. I want to do executive assisting as a career. On the side ill do some sort of business for extra cash.

At the moment i help my parents run a construction company. Im gonna get my contractors license in a year when i have the experience necessary by law.

I have had my 318 for 6 years now. Had 80k miles on it and one owner. Then i mashed the shit out of it. Its at 152 k right now. needs more suspension work then i can afford.

Purchased the 330 from my parents. has 130k miles. No huge issues. shes gonna get new coilovers within the year.

and...thats it i guess.

I live two hours from teh bay area.
