some of the orange lights here only last but a second, if you're like half a second late and they turn red and your car isn't all the way past the instersection they snap your shot

Very true. A head on shot from the rear doesn't work. However if you take a shot from 15ft+ all you get is white static like in my pic. I haven't been able to do a 15+ angle pic from height tho. I think that would be more worthwhile as that's where traffic cams are normally.

not only does the angle greatly affect it, but the proximity of the flash/lens.. traffic light cameras are much higher and further away than the above picture.
