Actually there are ads in gmail, just look on the right hand side when reading an email. Just no huge ads like on yahoo.

Well right, but they are flashing in your face or noticable. I usually dont notice them when I check my email. Also the ads are customized to the types of emails oyu receive, i.e. like if you get emails about food, you may see ads for restaurants, etc.

but the ads are plain text, the normal google style, they can go unnoticed easily.
