Hum, I just got an idea. Could be horrible, but I'll run it by you guys to see what you think.
What about every vote is weighed based on a calculation of the number of posts the user has who is voting and the rating of the voter's car themself. For example, woobie would have a heavy weighted vote because he himself has high rated car, showing his good taste in car moding, as well as the active members of the site having more say than the less active members. This way if someone signs up a new account and votes lots of people a "1", it won't do much because they almost no weight (low post count and no car rating).
You might be able to get TOO complicated to keep up with .
If you (Komodo) gave a Newly posted car a 10 as its first vote with the weight of your 1620+ posts it could pop to #1 immediatly
If you weighted it to a point of say 100 posts maybe. But based on total posts it devaluates almost everyone elses vote.
On the subject--how does one find the actual point average of the car above theirs in the ratings?
For instance I have an 8.63 average. What do Wax and Woobie have as averages? Can I hope to ever catch them? Who is about to catch me?
Yeah, that's true... if we did it, we'd have to cap the number of posts at like 500. (If you have over 500 posts, it truncates you down to 500 in the calculations)
And to find out their ranking, just click on their name from the list and click "Skip this car without rating", and it will show you their average.
I just went to check the ratings of the two above me and next below me.
I hesitate to say it but there seems to be a flaw in its math or in the numbers it displays. 8.86>8.28>8.63>7.49. Or did I drag up the wrong numbers?
I should just admit here that I do want my little silver mistress to be Number One some day That might put off buying her more Jewlery for a bit longer

haha, more jewelry.
I think it might be nice to have a slight variance in the weight of a persons vote. But a cap should be put on the post countage.
But I don't really think that the position someone's car has should affect the weight of their vote. For instance, if someone was a devoted member but they did not own a bmw, they would not be very highly ranked. But does that mean that they don't have taste in BMW's. They just might not be at a position in life to own such a beauty like Woobie.
Still love the fact that you are continuously trying to improve the site. Great work

It's because of the logorithmic implementation to weight out statistical margin of error. For example if there are 50 votes from 8-10 and a few 1's or 2's... they are not counted very heavily because they don't represent the majority. It's also based on the number of total votes. For example if someone signs up with a new car, and has one vote of "10", they would have an average of "10", but they would not be in the number one place. Make sense? The car with a lower rating can be above the car with a higher rating because there's a lot MORE high votes for the car ranked higher.... if that makes sense. haha, do you get it or should I try to explain it better?
