My new office
My new office:
http://www.johnweeks.com/carriers/im...riernimitz.jpg http://www.worldsfinestnavy.com/Hawkeye030430.jpg I ship out september 07th. I'll be an Aviation Warfare Systems Operator, which means i'll use airborne radar and other equipment in detecting locating and tracking submarines. four year contract, and I can finish my bachelors degree in aviation flight technology, and then hopefully get a commission as a pilot. EDIT: what I meant was, I can finish my bachelors degree WHILE enlisted, and then get a commission. With the navy's tuition assistance plan, I can do it almost completely for free. |
Congratz! :graduate

F-1 has been officially decommissioned for a while now. The E-2C is still very much around though.
Though I just got my ASVAB Line scores today, And I qualify for the Nuke program, which would also be a hell of a deal. SEALs is another option, as I've qualified on both my line scores and passed the PST test for minimum standards. Its not that I don't want to do it, but if i switch to a seals (SO) contract, and washout of BUD/s, then i'm sent back to the fleet as an undesignated seaman. which means that I'll be doing all the shit jobs that nobody wants to do. |
NEVER ring the bell!!!! I don't blame you, I've heard horror stories about BUD/s.

Brother in law was in the Navy Nuke program and seemed to like it. Retired a couple of years ago from it.
I did the nuke program in the Air Force because I am not a fan of waves and I was too tall for submarines. |
rofl terry.
Yeah, I'm looking hard at the SEALs. I know I can physically do it (I'm nothing like how I was in high school, I pass that PST test like it was a cakewalk at church) I just don't know. Ya know? Its more money cause you get hell pay... jump pay, dive pay, sub pay, flight pay, hazard pay AND combat zone pay, all non taxable, and you walk out of BUD/s as an E-4 (at least). I''m not going to do it though if i'm not 100000% sure I can do it, cause I hate giving up. Just a couple of stats... BUD/s has a 85% DOR (drop on request) attrition rate, but of BUD/s graduates, more than 95% actually become a SEAL. as Yoda says: "do, or do not. there is no try. Thats exactly how I feel on this issue. |
You got to do what you believe you need to do.
If I hadn't been in the nuke program I would have made it into the original Air Commando school in 1962. They went thru Aussie SAS training back then. Then into Vietnam either as a combat field advisor with the locals or to one of our clandestine air units in 'Nam. The guys who made it made the Green Berets look like soft little pussies. The Air Commandos later incarnation was to go out the door with air drops over 'Nam and defend the drop by yourself against all comers until the ground pounders got there. Really sounded like fun back then. Now I'm not so sure. |
