Keyless entry/remote start
A few questions here.
1)Is it worth getting a keyless entry system? 2)Does remote start on these systems work well? 3)About how much could I expect to pay to have one installed?(If you paid for it to be done your input would be very helpful) Thanks everyone. |
I like it (keyless entry) on my mom's car cause I put my things in the trunk and the door is already unlocked :nod

Is it factory or aftermarket, witeshark?

VW Jetta factory

I've always loved the remote start/keyless entry option... it allows you to warm up your car on cold days w/o having to go out there, get into the trunk/car and not have to fiddle w/ locks. I'm actually installing one in my 7 this next week.

www.bavauto.com sells plug-n-play keyless entry/alarms from $89 and up. Those kits take advantage of BMW's "double lock" system. If you go with a standard aftermarket alarm, you can still wire it up to double lock:
http://www.understeer.com/doublelock.shtml I don't really know about remote start, I didn't do it in mine. Kinda dangerous if you have a manual tho. I personally don't like to idle my car more than a minute or two, even in cold weather, so it was pointless for me. |
i want to get a keyless entry system. there have been a couple of times when it has been raining hard and i have had to fumble with my keys. plus, i would like to stop using the key on the door. that way, i dont have to be careful with my mass of keys hitting the exterior.

Thanks for the info and links everyone. |
I got a quote of $710 for alarm/remote start and some accessories ($400 in labor). You will also need a bypass module P/N 555B. Screw that, I did it myself, check out the DIY I posted.
