Moving to FL, Need Advise.
I would've posted this in the regional forum, but traffic here is much greater. I apologize for that now.
It would seem that in a few months time (July/Aug.) I will be moving down to the Floridian Peninsula. Girlfriend of 8+ years is going to start her Masters work in Marine Biology at Florida Atlantic University and it would just be beneficial for everyone if I just moved down there with her. SO.... Here's my thing: 1. What are the affordable areas to move into near that university or within a small commute? Affordable = housing <$300k and rentals accordingly. Some place with the obvious necessities ie. Low crime, good downtown area.... etc. Someone recommended to me Boca Raton. I don't think I can afford the $1 Million condos or want to be in the motel looking rentals. 2. Anyone know of the Job Market for Civil Engineers? Gotta find a job, ya know? Looking along the lines of reputable firms in that area. Dough |
I think a look at Coral Springs may be worth while :type

Thanks whiteshark, I'll check it out. Dough |
A convertible would be a good thing to take along.
Career Builder and Monster will tell you the job market--Start applying now and you might get lucky and have an employer pay for your move. |
TerrY,
Its kinda difficult, I really don't want to post my resume online as my current employer monitors the net. I haven't yet told them of my intentions.... Whiteshark, Checked out Coral Springs, market isn't too bad, town is littered with condos and townhouses. Looks decent enough. Pricing is much less than NJ, of course. Dough |
when you put ure applications on monster or career builder, you can hide your contact information so they dont know who it is.
and i supposed you can hide your previous/current employer name so they dont know that either. |
If nothing else just use them as a search tool to see what kind of things are open down there.
But note that it is far easier to convince someone to steal you away from your current employer than it is to convince them that you are not damaged goods when you are unemployed. |
