True Communism only works if you don't let those who want to be the leaders lead.

One they end up in charge Communism becomes Socialism and the leaders always seem to believe that they deserve more for leading. So much for equality.

The ideology of communism is, indeed, a good ideal. Everybody equal, nobody suffering, etc. Capitalism is truly the opposite. You need people to suffer, when comparing them to others. Capitalism requires a lower class. Its a modern day caste system, really. The difference being you can theoretically work your way up to a higher caste.
Realistically, though, the best forms are mixtures of both. Capitalism with Socialism. That is when you acheive the best balance to date.

Bringing it back to the Smurfs, I can see how that'd come across. Whether done intentionally or not is a different story. Perhaps it was done subconsciously.

Also, many theorize that Star Trek was a parallel of US expansionist policies. Did a study on that for an International Relations class - Cultural Politics and the influence pop culture has on them, and vice versa.

Kind of interesting how pop culture can be used to sway opinion. I was watching Monster House and there is a part in there where the kid says - Yeah - We can't depend on the government for nothin! Very subtle. The average kid won't really understand it. Yet, it'll sit with them and form opinion for when they get older.

I do not accept the notion that capitalism requires people to suffer or that there is a need for a poor sector. It seems to me that capitalism works best in the presence of a strong middle class.

Yeah it needs a strong middle class, BUT someone has to be the poorest (Not like living in poverty, but the one with the littlest money). People have to have something that is not easy to obtain that they strive for such as financial freedom, it all depends on how you define rich and poor.

please excues my poor spelling. ive been drinking

unfortunatly capitalism does require a looser. capitalism requirs a social hiarchy. and like all things, a triangle is the stongest shape. so a small part must suffer so that all those above it may prosper. idealy, all involved posses the equal ability to advance. and heres where we vayr from communism. while capitalism leaves room for even the worst to advance and better themselves and thier condition. communism says all are equal, regardless of effort.

capitalism does work well with a middle class. and this is best shown in the Renaissance. in which the middle class of traders was created. the middle class was a trader class. and that trader class bought from the lower classes work, and sold to the upper classes demands/
