"Z" -I'll give you a couple of reasons: A couple of my crew have them & they love them - especially when you live in a large city and have to commute - on the highways they use very little fuel to start with - then when they're in city traffic or bumper to bumper traffic the car literally turns itself off. Plus a ton of it is bluetooth commands - call home, radio controls, heat/ac settings. Perspective customers are the "enviornmentalist customer" who wants to save money & the planet - they feel like they're doing they're part - the drawbacks it's not sporty, or real powerful, roomy. If Toyota wants to attract more customers get the prices down to similar to commuter cars of similar size, make it sportier, more family oriented - put the "minivan" spin on it. If they really wanted to "up" the sales - put it out into the fleet markets - rental cars, company cars, and taxis.

My cousin has one in Puerto Rico and her gas bill wen't down the tubes. I drove it when I was on emergency leave in '05 and even though they look ugly, they have some really good get up and go, they are quiet as hell and the only time the regular engine really engages is if you really mash the gas and even with that it saves gas like hell. She also got a "nice" tax break for it. They aren't bad "get around" cars when you look at what you spend on the gas pump.
