My worst dealer experience EVER!

WARNING, it's gunna be a long one:

Some of you may remember that I’ve been in the market for a new mode of transportation. I finally got out to a dealership with a friend from college; he was there for moral support as I need a little backing when being confronted by vampire salespeople. He picked the dealership which was right by his house. It was the Toyota dealership on Rt. 440, I think, near Bayonne, NJ. It was sunset and had just started to rain.

I knew what I had wanted to check out, the Tacoma double cab with the TRD Off-Road package. So we walk in, young girl working there asks if we need help she then took us to her tiny elementary looking school desk. She was extremely giggly making her look very unprofessional.

Seems like were getting down to business, she pulls out a carbon paper pack, starts going through the usual… “What’s your name…. address…….” Then we get to MONEY. We haven’t even seen the truck yet.

She asks how much I’m willing to spend monthly. I’ve learned from previous mistakes, you keep that amount to yourself. She was ok with that; next comes my trade in. She wants to know what the car is, how many miles, how much did I spend on it, how much was my down payment on it, where did I get it from…. I’m thinking what the fuck? Now she wants my keys and registration….

I started giving her a little attitude, only cause I’ve yet to see the vehicle and she’s getting into the payment of it. With her giggling heightened now, she senses that we just want to test drive the truck, gets up and collects my license.

My friend and I sit there commenting on how messed up this salesperson is. She comes back a few minutes later with a dude, a rather big dude. Dude sits down in front of us, starts telling us how much it is. Again, we still haven’t seen it. He tells us that it’s going to be $30k and that’s pretty much it. I tell him that’s MSRP. He responds with, “That’s what we sell.”

Hmm. I don’t know if this guy is trying to get rid of us or what, cause he will never make a sale like that, especially the way he was talking to us, as if I was some little HS punk with a summer job. No offense to anyone. Apparently he was there to help her out, it was her sixth week on the job and I guess he was her teacher?

NOW we get to the test drive. YES!!!! She drives us over to another lot where they keep their inventory. They have maybe 10 or 15 trucks there. She writes down the number of the one that we picked, we get back in the transport car and she begins to drive away, only, I’m half way car in the car! She stops just in time.

We arrive at the other end of the lot at a trailer. We’re there to get the keys and plate for the truck. She comes out of the trailer carrying a battery booster. Odd. Ok, well get back to the truck, sure enough, it didn’t start. The truck has been sitting there for a while; date of manufacture was 10/2006. It had 4 miles on it. I guess that dealer didn’t take care of their inventory. Well, she started up with the boost. While following her back to the showroom in the truck, I noticed that the fuel gage was on ‘E’ and that the little yellow light was on. She gets the gas card from her boss, and on my test drive, we’re getting gas.

Nearest gas station is a Hess, which is FILLED with cars, as if it was a gas shortage. Waiting in line, we see an open spot and jump over to it, one of the two attendants comes over to us, salesperson gives me the dealer expense card saying to only put in $10 of regular in otherwise she’ll get in trouble. Dude sticks in the nozzle and walks away to tend to the other dozen cars waiting in line. Meanwhile, chick tells me to turn off the engine otherwise it’ll explode. Now, I don’t know if she was kidding, if she wasn’t, I’d have to wonder if she’s in the right business, as to this point she’s proven otherwise.

A minute passes buy and she starts to freak saying that the total is now at $14. Guy was really busy, so I just hopped out, and did the deed. Got the receipt and now we can FINNALY begin the test drive for real. Until…

The BATTERY DIED! How fuckin ironic is it? Here I am in a brand spanking new Tacoma with less than 10 miles on a freakin test drive and the fucking thing is dead at the busiest gas station I’ve ever seen. Not to mention we were blocking the only diesel pump with a semi behind us and we can’t roll her out of the way because of the automatic locking up with no power. Chick calls up her boss to send over a mechanic to bring the booster that she forgot. He gets there… truck starts right up, and now it’s snowing, not that that was an issue, in fact that was the only high. It hadn’t snowed for a VERY long time. Kinda missed it.

Sorry for the long read...

Ooo perhaps I should... maybe they'll give me a better deal on a truck than $30k, ha.

Goto a different dealer, me and a friend went to a nissan dealer when he was looking for an xterra and they had the worst service ever and a really bad/old showroom. They supposidly just changed hands and didn't even have sales materials for all of their cars, they tired to pull the same shit with MSRP, we did get to test drive a car pretty quickly but the woman was an idoit so we left. My buddy went to the next closest one which is about an hour away after talking to them on the phone and they were much more helpful then the other place.

Ah but of course, this was the third dealership I saw for this particular vehicle. The first one was the same shit, refering to the MSRP bull. Next one was decent, guy stayed late to talk to me, went down to $28 and change. But even then, it's still a little more than i expected. This last place though, man, what a screw up.

Ohh man . . that would be Hudson Toyota here in my town of Jersey City, owned by the Difeo car dealer group. Never ever buy a car from a Difeo dealership. Ever. I mean it. If you do, don't say I didn't warn you. Those fucking idiots are goddamn crooks and hoodlums.

Second, if your friend is really from around here, he should have known that. Or maybe he's not as good a friend as you thought Seriously tho, sorry for the bad experience, I wish I'd known you were coming up this way

Dudesky,
That's exactly the the place!

Haha, you know I live in this state. Went to college at NJIT in Newark. Hence why we went to that dealer. Just because it was the closest.

In reference to my friend:
He's actually a good friend, he's never purchased a vehicle from there, just brings his dad's Camry there. He's a Lexus driver.

Hey Steve, I couldn't write/said it any better than what you wrote in this post. I seriously had no freaken idea that the place was so bad. I use to take my mom's Corolla and Camry over there for service. Other than that I haven't really dealt with the sales dept.

But they really sucked last night, I was really close to telling the cocky bastard to go F$$$ himself.

Hope all works out for you man, the truck was really nice thou.

just to add on to it, my dad went to the BMW dealer here in 06 and was looking at a 325xi. the salesman comes out w/the keys to a black one, my dad was looking for a silver one. so he goes do you guys have any in silver? he goes no, sorry, he heads back inside to put the keys away, so my dad goes, well its fine ill test drive this one i mean im sure you can get a silver one. ok so we test drive it, come to discuss the #'s..
mind you, on their website it says they charge 5.9% interest. the first thing he says to my dad(who has perfect credit) is that the interest rate is 6.5. he said, on ur webstie it says 5.9. salesman denies it, so i went and showed him on the puter he had there. i walk balk to the office, the salesman stays at the puter for a little bit, comes back and says, "well it says ask dealer for details. so yeah, its 6.5%"

lol my dad went the next day and bought an audi haha

New toyota 4 x 4's are good, just sounds like you went to a crappy dealership thats a shame. No problems with my dads 4 runner, and he doesn't just drive it daily to work, he hauls stuff in it, takes it camping, mtn biking, etc.
