What kind of suspension? no coil-overs.

What do you guys prefer suspension set up wise, and why? And I will tell you right now, I will not get coil-overs, too expensive.

What I need is something that:
-is about 800 or less
-drops the front no more than 1-1.5 inches.

right now, I think I will get the Sachs suspension set up from understeer.com, but not sure.

I got a Dinan stage 1 done over the summer, lowered it about 1-1.5 inches and got koni adjustables with it and I love it, however, thats probably out of the price range. I might suggest looking into a set of H&R sport springs which should lower it about that much and then some sporty bilstiens I don't know exact prices or which Bilstiens i would suggest but i'm sure that plenty of members with them can give a better suggestion.

i could not tell you, i am not familiar with the sachs setup, and I have not driven on the Bilstiens, But with the bilstiens you should be able to get some sportier damping and the lower springs should also help with cornering an making the car look even more awsome, i know someone on here should be able to give you better info than what i have provided.

i have h&r sport springs with bilstein sport shocks. not sure how much the springs lowered the car because they were on when i bought it but when i put the shocks on it surprisingly raised the front a bit. it looks like the back is lowered a little more than the front. and the nice thing about bilsteins is they have life time warranty. i am not sure the others have that.

Hows the ride quality with bilstien? I hear there pretty good quality parts, but nobody has em on their car that i can talk to. And how much were they (in CDN $)?

i strongly recommend koni shocks, i have them and they're great! Adjustability is nice so you can make it as stiff as you want for the track or softer for street usage. Here's a pic with koni adjustables and h&r sports

But can u adjust em without having to take em off the car? When i upgrade my suspension i know im going with H&R Sport Springs, and as for shocks its down to Koni or Bilstien.

i really like the bilsteins. however i do wish i spent the extra $$$ and went with adjustable coilovers. i dont know about the quality of the konis. i have heard lots of stories of people blowing konis and i am not sure they have a warranty. remember the bilsteins have life time warranty. to me that is worth something.

I have the koni's as well and I love them, unfortunatly you have to take the rears out on an e30 to adjust but up front its quick and easy, I dont know how it is in the e36.

it's the same as the e30, the rears you have to take out to adjust, but the front you can do through the engine bay. I know of one company that created externallly adjustable koni's though so you could do the rears through the trunk too, i think it was tokico or something.

Koni adjustabels are the wya to go. $800 is a lot of money. Bilsteins sports are awesome, but sicne you got a bit more money I would go with Koni's.

By the way, for $800 im sure you could ifnd and get hookups on Tein coilovers or maybe even bilstein PSS coilovers. Shop around or find some that are barely used and you could get some awesome coilovers for the same price.

Yes it can be, really take a good look at the struts/shocks to check for leaks and oen of the best places to look is through classifieds on www.bimmerforums.com

That way you can try adn find people with a lot of posts and hope they tell the truth and find some that might have only been used a few thousand miles or a few months. Also you could go back and check their old posts and you might find out approximately when they got them because people tend to post online as soon as they get somethign new on their car.
