Man my car has been giving me sooo much grief lately.
I ve just finished replacing the whole cooling system which included new radiator, t-sat, connectors (plastic had turned to mush) and the hoses round the back of the engine. Hours of DIY fun.
Great its running fine and I am thinking to sell it... then clunk-clunk. Crap! The left side RSM has torn out of the tower.
So I ve unbolted the bottom of the shock and in true bush style I'm running it on the spring till I can get it fixed.
I ve found the part on realOEM.com: SUPPORT FOR SHOCK ABSORBER LEFT 1 41148169027 (left side, 28 for right) and will try to get one shipped to Fiji asap.
Any one done this job before? I read that I just need to drill out the spot welds and drop the new one in and weld. Any advice would be much appreciated.
As soon as this is fixed I'm selling it. The bimmer dreamer has turned into too much of a nightmare.
Think I ll get a crappy Corolla wagon as they are so many of them here, easy to get parts and fixed by the bush mechanics. Then with the left over $$ get a small boat to take me out to the reef for surfing and fishing. The roads here are so pot holed its not worth get any thing decent.
If I can find one of those indestructable Hilux twin cabs that would be good but would probally have to thow the boat out the equation.
yea shock tower mounts tend to go around that age. its easy to replace. Change the other side if you dont want to sell the car.

The suspension on the LHS gets more of a beating than the driver's side (RH drive) I guess because there are more potholes on the side of the roads. I will just replace one side but get the z3 plates for both and weld them in.
Yes thats the one I need for the roads here. Although most of the ones for sale look like that one too.
I ordered the parts from Pelican last night and they should be here in a couple of weeks all going well. In the mean time the back end is acting a little lively with only one shock (no sway bar either).
I will have to see how much I can get for the Bimmer before dreaming too much about what I will get next.
