GA 400 Cameras - United Bimmer Community

Just a warning, today I was driving down GA 400 and noticed a bunch of new concrete posts about 1.5 times as tall as a traffic light all along both sides of the freeway. These posts were about every 1/4th of a mile non-stop and at the top of each of them is a large camera. I then noticed a sign on the side of the road saying "Photo Enforced", similar to those you see around traffic lights with the no-run-red cameras.

I picked up my phone and called the Alpharetta Police Department to find out what was up with this. They redirected my call to the GHP (GA Highway Patrol). As it turns out they're automatic traffic law enforcement cameras. If you speed, they get your license plate number and mail you a citation. If you change lanes without a blinker, they can mail you a citation. If there's a moving accident, they will use the cameras to determine who was at fault. The last isn't so bad, but the speeding thing sucks. I usually cruise down 400 about 15 over, which seems to be the flow of traffic. No more, the GHP said for 15 over, you're pretty much assured a ticket.

I know the cameras are between Holcomb Bridge (exit 7) and Old Milton (exit 10). Not sure beyond there.

That's so incredibly lame. I say if the cops want you to pay them money for a ticket, they can get off their lazy asses and sit beside the freeway watching cars and pegging them by hand.

And yes, the guy at GHP said the cameras are already activated and they're sending out a few real citations now... and are going to start sending out increasing numbers of them soon.

You need to get some photo blocker spray stuff so they can't get your tag number.

if that is true, i will have COUNTLESS tickets coming to me, i was doing 90 down it yesterday, all day, (Yes after I knew about this), to see if it actually works, which im sure it doesnt.

i would laugh my ass of if one day the GHP show up at ur door with a huge bag of tickets for u. Thast just stupid, like they shouldnt have to use cameras for that. If im alone on a road i have the tendency to switch lanes without signalling (only if im like alone) so getting busted like that would suck ass

i'm skeptical that the entire GHP has embarked on a misinformation campaign to tell everyone that the normal flow cameras are actually speed cameras. I may have to drive down there, since that area is right off m exit, and check it out.

When thoes cameras were first put up, right after you called and told me about it (within 2 days) I was 100+ on 400 .. still haven't gotten a ticket.

They're BS. It's for the news teams to report quickly on traffic and also if there is an accident, they can review footage to see what happened.
