from charlotte, new to forum - engine advice?
what's up all, I'm from south charlotte and just found this forum today. I have an '85 318i, 2nd owner in its 22 years. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations on where in charlotte I could take it for a complete engine replacement - about 2 years ago the oil ran too low (apparently the computer sensors were malfuctioning, and I carelessly lost track) and the engine just died on the way back from a 7 hour trip to GA.
I haven't had the money to get it fixed assuming I need a new engine. I was thinking of possibly upgrading it to a 325 engine. so, any recommendations on the best place to do this? thanks for any help.

Welcome to UB, you'll have fun. As far as your question goes, Rooz might know a good place he is from the area. Hope you can get some help, sorry I can provide it.
Umnitza now provides a mechanic to install all parts ordered right in the box! It's their new "Total customer service program" that will eliminate all the haters and keep incompetents from breaking **** and blaming the vendor! When you are all set simply call INS and they will pick him up free of charge.

sounds like a great opportunity to roll up your sleeves and get to know your engine bay a little better. My engine spun a bearing two years ago, and instead of having it done by a shop ($3k), we decided to buy a manual for the car, did all the work ourselves (except for the precision machining of the parts, but even that was done for penny's on the dollar of what a shop was able to charge). Did it in our garage too.
