Rather than just releasing the interface, I'm delaying it a few weeks and releasing everything at the same time.
Included in UB2.0 will be:
- New sexy interface with easier access to the non-forum parts of the site
- Much improved SEO (so we can get deeper into the search engines)
- Revised custom-written wallpaper gallery. I want this to compete directly with the thousands of BMW wallpaper sites out there.
- United Garages (this will compete head-on with Car Domain)
- Redeveloped Rate-My-Car (completely new code, integrated with garages)
- Harder focus on unitedbimmer email (if someone starts using UB.c email for their personal mail, they are unlikely to lose interest in our site and leave because they see the name everyday... thus better member retention, plus the advertisement we get from people distributing our name to all their friends)
After this new site is launched, I plan on dropping a lot of personal money into advertising, in addition to seeking out 3rd party investors to help establish a larger hold online.
Our goal with this single campaign is to have a few hundred users online 24/7, however through all that, one of my highest priorities is maintaining a small community vibe. After we reach that level, I plan on rolling out new makes using a similar code base- the United Cars network.
Your vision for the site is refreshing and with great forward thinking. If it comes to fruition, this will be one of the largest and best running sites out there. Good luck with it all and I can't wait to see it come to light.....

^^ Thank you. It is definately happening, though with work I will have limited time the next week to dedicate to it- however I do plan on everything being completed in around a month's time.
Rather that just sitting around and idling like most communities, I want us to continue to improve and thrive, never being content with our current success. There's a lot of potential here, and we expect to exploit it to it's fullest.
CalliditasCastor (5:58:26 AM): now i'm upgrading to the latest version of vbulletin, with ajax and all that fun stuff
the ChrisWorrell (5:58:28 AM): reading that thread now
CalliditasCastor (5:58:33 AM): that means most of my coding is broken with the upgrade
CalliditasCastor (5:58:34 AM):
CalliditasCastor (5:58:36 AM): all the custom work
the ChrisWorrell (5:58:38 AM): ouch
CalliditasCastor (5:59:14 AM): i've been working on learning the new version of vbulletin and modifying my code since around... 11pm
That's 9 hours of work on UB straight without even getting up from the chair.
And it's definately light outside now... I guess that means time to go to sleep.
What the . . I hadn't been on much in the last day or so, because I left my laptop's PS at work. Sorry, but I'm not too crazy about this new look, I guess I'm used to the old way. But I'll get used to it. The only thing that really bugs me is that the members online list is now at the bottom. Can we somehow get that back near the top? I like to see who's out there at a glance when I log on, w/o having to scroll all the way down.
