Member Awards

I just had a pretty cool idea to motivate some people to recruit mostly, and maybe able to be expanded to new stuff later.

What about having under each person's name a little row of small icons, or Member Awards. They would be things able to be earned, and would contribute to the community when earned. For example if a person has more than 10 referals (members they've gotten to join through spreading the word) for example, they'd get a little "R" icon/award for recruiting. I thought about having an award for post count, but that wouldn't be a good idea. Maybe after you submit a DIY that's admitted to the knowledge base, you get an award icon for that. That way you can look under a person's name, and the more icons they have, the more they've contributed to the community. Know what I mean? :)

Whatcha think? :cheers

sounds cool. now I'm thinking...

craig 10-11-2005 10:45 PM

that would probably end up as one of those "im better then you" things.

because of harry im'ing me this made him think of the idea so ill take the credit :P

I just hope people won't try to recruit random users that would never be online just so they would have X# of referrals.

cool idea :D

brien4787 10-11-2005 10:46 PM

pretty weak sauce... no need for that

komodo 10-11-2005 10:47 PM

^^ Haha, well if they recruit someone, they'd then get the emails we occasionally send out, and it wouldn't hurt anything to have them adding one to our member count... it just wouldn't help anything.

I don't think it'd be an "i'm better than you" thing, but a thing of prestige and respect. If you submit a good DIY, you deserve it... know what I mean?

Torque 10-11-2005 10:47 PM

no need for it. because then people would be doing diys such as 'how to open your ashtray' to get icons. fuck that.

Rooz 10-11-2005 10:49 PM

DIY's are reviewed before submited to knowledge base

komodo 10-11-2005 10:50 PM

^^ We wouldn't accept that DIY to be added to the knowledge base.

I'm actually surprised by the mixed responses, heh. So far, I don't think there's enough positive feedback to move forward with this.

I'm not going to lie I'd be more likely to write a DIY when I do a mod/repair with the system than without.

That's what I'm thinking.... you'd actually get something out of it, even if it's only a social benefit.

voca 10-11-2005 10:55 PM

if more people think like me then we could potentially be a huge database of bmw tutorials, which attracts bmw owners, which brings in more people to write DIY's and BAM it's exponential! wild..

Rooz 10-11-2005 10:58 PM

That's the basic idea behind it, but keep in mind it wouldn't just be for DIY's...

xsperf 10-11-2005 11:09 PM

whatever, im just gonna gomake 10 accounts with my name as the referrer :)
