I think it's really unfair to judge the mods' motives behind this. They're just trying to make the forums as good as they can be. It's just an idea and they are checking with the community first. Personally, I agree with whoever said that there should be rewards such as t-shirts to the members, but maybe that's not feasible. Either way, I don't think it would hurt to try it.

well. i think its crap. it seems like these days mods words have more weight than everyone elses. especially in harry's eyes, they're almost infallable. thats just my point of view. i think this place is turning into every other forum. I personally won't be back.

umm chris, he didnt make any decisions yet, and im sure before he makes a decision he will have a poll, and in a poll a mod and a normal member's opinion have the same weight, must be in a pretty crappy mood today, because sorry to say but some stuff your saying isnt making any sense, your gonna leave just for 1 stupid idea that hasnt even been implemented?

and linds, i would prefer if you called me xsperf, not whoever

I don't know if i like it or not. I've known Chris long enough to know that there were other things he wasn't happy about but just let go without saying anything. This sounds like it was his last straw.

Chris, you sir are a fucking moron.

It is a discussion, meaning both sides would be presented. I have an opinion too, sure, but obviously I'd never implement it if the majority of the members disagreed. After I've personally spent hundreds of hours on this forum, it stands to reason that I'd only want the best for it, and developing any functionality that would regress the progress of the community would not be acted upon by the staff. Putting it bluntly, go take your Midol and use some common sense.

I personally like the idea, but as the members don't like it, I'm retracting my suggestion. If I was at all like you made me out to be, I'd have ignored everyone and acted instead... but that's not the case. This community has always been by the members, for the members, which is why I created this thread of discussion about a new potential idea in the first place. I frankly am offended by your above posts and would greatly appreciate it if you took a step back and approached your arguments from a more objective stance in the future.

Okay, so let's ask someone who is NOT a mod, and has done a few writeups. Not that it matters since Harry pulled the idea anyway, but . .

Personally the prestige thing is a load of horse shit. I would not feel that way even if I had the biggest fricken icon by my name. In fact, I would be very afraid. Rather, I'd be a target for immense criticism from my peers to get things and facts correct whenever I speak. It doesn't give you props, it just gives you more responsibility because people will be apt to trust your word. And no one here is always 100% right. If I got something wrong in a DIY, I would feel completely horrified if someone followed it and the mistake cost them money or worse, some type of injury. For me it has nothing to do with "I'm better than you". I do it because if I can make someone else's repair experience easier, then that alone makes my time and trouble all the more worth it. Why should I be the only one to benefit from my experiences? Oooh- I think I just defined the word . . . COMMUNITY.

Anyway, for the record, I agree that getting icons for DIY's may not be so hot, since not everybody has the means to do them. But i can see how they can work for referrals; that would be a more even playing field.

That's a very good point. I never thought of it that way.

Okay, idea closed. It was worth the discussion. They don't all work out.

Guys - guys... what difference does a "status icon" do for anyone posting? If I'm after info or an idea - I could care less if the guy has his name in lights... It doesn't take a genius to figure who knows what on this forum. I enlist as many ideas/angles on any project I take on. More resources are always a bonus to any site - you have to use common sense to decifer info. The idea was good but wouldn't have a big impact. If anything on any DIYs, add a disclaimer saying "this is how I did it - yours might be different and ALWAYS stress safety.

"Free info is a gift - Common Sense is a Blessing"

Dudesky I am very thankful you are here. Not only do you define what our great community is but you add so much to it.

I think everyone that posted here needs to step back. And using such negative criticism never gets a point across, the person will never listen.
