Okay, so the recruiting idea might not work, but as the DIY's are moderated, that might work.

All of you who dislike the idea, may I inquire further as to why?

i dont dislike the idea, but the fact that if you submit that many DIYs or whatever, you get an icon.. is there any way we can give a better reward

here is an idea: if you submit 10 good DIYs you get a free t-shirt

ok i dont feel liek typing much right now so ill make it blunt. its stupid, it basicly awards the members who have nothing to do and sit here on UB (not that theres anything wrong with it) and recruit people or make DIY's. The only DIY' ill probably end up making is when i paint my calipers

i don't think its needed. as we are now it may work, but anything even remotely like this will become a i'm better than you thing as we grow. its also not fair to the people who don't have Bimmers and can't make DIY's (ostracizing enthusiasts because they don't have the means to make a DIY is wrong) or don't have the mechanical inclination to make a DIY (not everyone is capable of DIY-ing)

not needed.

personally i see a lot of nonsupport and then the mods are trying to work their way around to get support..... it sounds like the community has spoken.

So you don't feel it's a good idea because you personally wouldn't get one?

no harry. read my post. there's certain people that wouldn't be able to get one, and ostracizing people like that never leads to any good.

its a community for enthusiasts, all enthusiasts, not just the ones that know enough about mechanics to do the work themselves.

i kinda disagree, i cant make any DIYs anymore, but i really dont care, secondly, yea whatever some people may never get it, but thats how life is, you have to do something to get something, and most importantly, it encourages people to actually do the DIYs and it can get more members.. etc etc, and the percentage of people who cant do DIYs is pretty small

i say we try it for a few, my guess is no one will really pay attention or care if they have icons or not, and no one will bother

^^^ thus defeating the purpose and making harry's time and effort completly wasted. This sounds entirely to much like an elitist club of those who get the chance to make DIY's will think they're better.

i also have issues with mods/admins voicing their opinions on something presented to the community. then you don't get what everyone wants.
this is post number 22 of the 21 before this HALF were mods/admins speaking

of the 10 posts not made by mods there were five posts that supported the idea coming from only two users, voca and xsperf.

so the mods like it. but they're servants of the community, they do what we tell them to do when it comes down to it. so their opinions should be thrown out.

that leaves two people supporting the idea that isn't in the mod/admin clique and the rest of us just don't like the idea.

as such, now that i've broken down the numbers for you, if this goes through without a VAST amount of support from non mods/admins, you can see why i won't be here anymore. I will not be part of a community where the mods push for their ideas until other succumb to them, or just go ahead and do them anyway.

i'm also stating that there is no need for mods/admins to throw their weight around (even as non mods) on a public opinion poll like this.

what!? wow i completely disagree, and its not because i am on the same side

so what, they are mods, they are people too, they are part of the community, yes, they do what we tell them to, so if the vote is no, they will do what we tell them to, if the vote is yes, they will do what we tell them to, but i completely disagree that their opinions should be thrown out
