Remember how we had some system where you could rate someones post based on useful information and how valuable it was?
Well, what you could(to relate to ranks, or charactor stats), is that after getting a certain amont of ratings from others based on useful posts/threads, you could have an actual Rank on the site in terms of information suppliers...
does that make sense?
So people will put more time into making sure that what they say is usefull rather then just a line that says "id rather have a manual transmission".

I know not every thread is asking for advice or how to do something, but giving ranks based on ratings that others give you will make this community better.

especially if people care about their ranks.

and as far as rewards go, you could reward someone for getting to a certain rank.

rank 1 = free decals
rank 2 = decals + shirt
rank 3 = ____

and you could have names for each rank like:
oh i dont know...um...Professor...or something witty, lol...

but you guys should get the idea..

in a nutshell:
rewarded for getting to a certain rank by giving usefull information.

-------

as for recruiting more people, advertising is always a #1...only thing i can think of is PMing people on forums asking for DIY info or something, and tell them about UB and how good we are in information along that platform

-dan

p.s.

now that im here more often, i can help out with E30 technical issues as much as possible. if that helps at all

I'm thinking something like maybe some kind of website-based html/php game and you get money for it by posts and recruitment. Like every 10 posts you make, you get $1 to spend on your e-car, and every member you recruit you get like $50 or something. Then you can buy rims and stuff for it, and show it off in your signature, or something like that. Then maybe later on be able to challenge other users to races.

Something like that.... whatcha think?

that just leads to a community full of post whores. some people won't be post whores, but most new members will just be post whores..

^^ We tried that once with vbulletin reputation points and it didn't really work out.

See that thread.

Or am I misunderstanding you?

here's my thing on doing anything regarding participation. ANY time people do that, you inevitably have more people playing the numbers game trying to be top ranked or whatever and care a LOT less about the actual information on the site. We have a really high quality product here, if you will. Our goal should ALWAYS be to preserve that quality, no matter what other goals we may have.

I think i do recall that. but sad thing is that it didnt pull through.

that game with e$ is good idea, but bad, because post whores suck, unless you want to make a sub forum where posts there count only for the game,a nd not overall posts..

Like, in the eCarUBexperience Forum, anything you say in there, regardless of info or origin, those posts will only count for THAT forum, and if you post in normal OT or anything, the posts are just added to your normal post count, and are seperate from the eCar experience...make sense?

but that would also take a lot of work..and there are plenty of games like that out right now anyways..you'd be better off just making the OT lounge the new gaming forum thing..now i think im just mumbling

Yeah... but also remember for ads in the AJC or in Roundel... they require money, and the majority of our monthly income is going to the server now... don't have much left over to play with.
