i say get the server, and maybe afterwards we can post on cardomain. That way in case we do get a LOT of traffic, things will work allright

Then I think we have made a decision.

For future reference though, what other methods of advertising should we look into? (after we have a good server and are looking for members)

^^ I really like that idea, there is this DROP DEAD SPANKING HOT M3 that lives a few streets down from me and I mean if I had some kind of flyer//business car about this site, I could just put on his windshield and maybe get him on here... or just hand them to nice BMW's whenever you meet them...

Business cards for all members would be crazy expensive though. I think the best bet might be make some pdf templates of flyers and allow people to print them out on their own computer....

plus, knowing cardomain, we might just end up with a steady flow of civic owners making absurd claims. while it is fun to laugh at them, it can quickly grow tiring.

I was thinking it would be cool to have some way for new members to indicate if they joined becuase they saw a UB decal on one of our cars.

And yea, option 1 is more important . . if you're gonna have a party, make sure you got enough room in the house first.

as far as advertising in general goes. if you advertise and too many peoplee visit and join and it hinders server space and makes things slow and crappy, then people will leave, because its slow and crappy. you really can't do the second one till you've done the first one

i like #1 for the reasons mentioned above, and also, i don't think anyone has said this yet, i'd love to have a @unitedbimmer.com email address. i also like the flyer idea because it can be easy just priting out and puttin them all over your city

All right! I just got off the phone with the Penguin Studios datacenter.

I'm looking at buying a 2.8GHZ P4 server with 1GB of ram and 160GB of hard drive space for us (also talking prices on upgrading the 10mbit port speed to 100mbit, which will greatly help load times when there's a bunch of people online at one time). That will take about 3/4th of our sponsor income, leaving us enough for a medium sized adwords campaign each month. Sound cool?
