Rooz: I mean if I can find even a used one that I can just drop in that's fine. Or find a rebuilt one.

It's lame that it costs less for me to buy a rebulit tranny then have them install it, as opposed to having them rebuild it.

Dudesky: Thanks for the info bro. I'll call them on my lunch.

Man, this blows.

^^^Considering they're made by GM, it's not surprising that they fail

I found one for $600.00 SHIPPED... it's through www.nordstromsauto.com.

Then it's like almost $800.00 for installation.

My concern is that it's a used one, not a rebuilt one. It's got 116k on it.

Think it's worth it? Or hold out for a rebuilt one?

i would hold out for a rebuilt one, or at least haggle to bring the price down on that one!

given that the if it is the same model tranny, ya know, being GM sourced, it may fail later down the road too. might as well pay for a reconditioned one that will *most likely* last longer.

Makes sense.

My other thought is to just trade this in, but tell the dealership that fourth gear is blown. From the dealership perspective, they might not mind because their mechanics are hourly anyway, so there's no labor overhead really.

Think I can get away with trading it in, but take a grand or 1500 less than the normal trade-in value?

I'm not really finding a rebuilt one that's cheap enough.

Thoughts?

I hear ya celsdogg, but then if they find out it's trashed before the papers are signed, then I have to take a loss. Know what I mean?

All in favor of just trading it in, and maybe losing a lil bit on my current loan?

Does anyone know if I can buy a complete rebuilt tranny? I cant find one anywhere. I dont think I want a used one, I'd like a rebuilt one.

dude for a little under 2 grand you should be able to get a manual swap done. I got quoted $900 labor for mine, and then around a grand for the tranny with the manual conversion parts.

Im gonna install mine myself though in a few months after winter.

Is there some "Kit" that I can buy that inludes all the swap parts?

I'd love a manual....
