Good point. The e39 weighs a lot as compared to the e36. What kind of numbers are you trying to reach?

FYI nick, the non-vanos engine will probably put ot more horespower when turbocharged than a vanos engine

really? why is that? i have never heard that before.

the non vanos engine has some beefier components such as dual valve springs and thicker rods but those do not actaully make more power, just help with longevity. vanos helps create more power, thats why they added it in 93 and why the newer cars are double vanos.

440 at the wheels is sick. How much boost will you run?

i believe you can buy a vf supercharger for your car for $4500 that will make more power than the m5.

I think the VF would give 440 HP at the flywheel. Yeah, it will be more than the M5. I didn't realize that it only costs $4500. I was under the impression it was more like 7-8K. Only time will tell if I go the route of Forced Induction. It is fun to learn and read about though.

So the stage I VF supercharger for the 540 is $6000 and gives 415HP and 400 ft-lbs of torque at the flywheel. I checked it on www.beastpower.com

B_w. its only from what i hear, is that the non-vanos engine is much more responsive to any modifications, and that people with normal e36 325i vanos, if they got the turbocharger route they actually swap out their engine for a non-vanos one, but then again, what do i know?

why wouln't you just remove the vanos from the engine completely an not even bother with swapping out the engine. That way you would have the best of both worlds. then you could boost the shit out of it and tune easy.

Snyway,just my two cents.

Oh ya, almost forgot, for those who will detest that you cannot remove the vanos, blah, blah, blah.
just get this:http://www.vacmotorsports.com/cgi-bi...pl?item_id=597except for the e36's .They do make them but I'm two lazy to look anymore

I would imagine insurance would be less, but I don't know about cheaper. My 540 is worth about 30K and if I add 6K for a S/C plus labor, bigger brakes, suspesion, etc, I would be looking at 40K. I could get an M5 for 40K stock. The S/C would give me only a bit more HP than the stock M5. A tough call. I think a S/C would be fun.

Does anyone make a turbo for the 540i?
