Your Ride: 2004 Subaru Impreza TS Sportwagon
uber newbie

hello all,

my name is Julian from Winnipeg, MB (Canada). I'm turning 20 in July, and have been driving a 2004 Subaru Impreza TS Sportwagon (naturally aspirated, not turbo) since Dec2003. Ever since I was 16 I've been in love with the M Coupe, but quickly fell in love with Subaru AWD when I started driving.

I think I'll be able to handle university and competitive rowing AND a pretty good part-time job for the next 3 years, and I'm setting my sights on looking for a e46 M3 or an M Coupe secondhand, to buy in a couple of years. I know it's rare to find an M Coupe (There's only one in Winnipeg and I doubt it's an S54), and it wouldn't be cool to just up and buy an M3 without really knowing what I'm getting myself into, so I'd really like to do as much homework as I can before heading out.

I know 3 years is still a long way down the road, but I don't know too much about BMW's but am eager to know the basics (eg. bolt patterns, small glitches, etc), although I suppose a lot of it will come from actually driving one. It's been a closet-dream for 4 years now, but ever since I started looking into BMW's again, I've been getting more and more serious about a longterm plan to acquire one.

If there are any reliable sites or sources for a more-or-less newbie to start with aside from wikipedia or bmwworld etc, that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot guys

I'll be browsing around to find more information... looks like there's a lot on this forum.

Welcome to UB. The M coupe are awesome on the track and the twisties bone stock, let along if you start modding it.

I wouldn't worry too much about the S54 in the M Coupe, the S52 is a very nice engine as well, and is actually better for FI kits.

Everyone is welcome to UB, enthusiast, owner, or just a person who loves cars. Just browsing and reading what some of the very knowledagble people on here (dudesky!) say can teach you so much.

Welcome to UB!

I'm a fan of the M Coupe as well. I just love that clown shoe shape. Were I in a position to purchase either, I would definitely take an M Coupe (S54 or S52) over the E46 M3.

Great group of guys (and girls) here, and there is plenty to learn. If you're passionate about BMWs, this is the place for you.

I agree, sporty sporty indeed.

There aren't very many here...I've driven a blue one, 2 black ones, a red one...and I think that's it.

No, they don't look like clown shoes.

They look like a Nike shoe. Just put a swoosh on the side and you've got running shoes.

Yup, fun and lots of information here.
