Deciding to tint the windows.

Hey guys I want to tint my windows (all but the windshield - I want to see as much as I can ) and Im trying to decide what % I should go with. Any tips?

(The car will be in MI with a MN plate so no worries about getting tickets for now)

20% all around looks good, usually anything near there, 10 is too light, 15 is in the middle, and really, anything over 20 is too dark

uh.. the lower the number the darker.

I'd go with 25% all around.

Personally i like the tint on C1aptons car, but that may be a bit dark for ya. Go with something dark enough so that u only see a basic shape of the person inside.

Correct . . the percentage refers to how much light gets through, not how dark it is.

I wanted to tint mine to reduce the heat buildup in the car during hte summer, but here in NJ you can't tint the front windows at all. It would just look stupid

Yeah xsperf, I think you have that backwards man. haha

I have 20 on my car and love it. Any darker is TOO dark and you won't be able to see at all at night... fair warning.

Limo tint is 5%.

I'd do either 20, 25, or 30. Usually the tint shops can show you examples of different pieces of glass they have laying around so you can see it before you go through with it.

If you are going to go dark no matter what % make sure it's low or no distortion type. Distortion can be a problem using mirrors.

Re: my tint, that's DOT 205 glass, not film and it's $1100 to have glass made and installed.

First check state law if they provide an "endorsement" for dark windows. Most do, but check. If they do if you have a DR friend - they can write you a note on their letterhead - then next time you renew your license you state you have the endorsement and "tada!" (I'll blast you a copy of mine so you have the basic idea.)
