Cool External hard disk

Is it reliable?I want it for my HP laptop since it's full of games.I want a external hard disk to store my music and pictures and assignment files. My pen drive is not so reliable since it always off itself.

Thanks in advance.

zeaq,

Yes, it's reliable... it's a normal hard drive inside of a shell. The only downside in external hard drives is the speed. If you get a USB one, they can be pretty slow to read and write. Firewire is better, USB 2.0 is decent.... but obviously nothing can compare to a normal internal hard drive.

I have both a firewire drive and a NetDisk network drive. The network drive is great as I can access it directly from all my computers without having to have more than one active at any time. 80 gigs of fast storage and, as it is contains a 3.5" HDD easily upgradeable in the future.

My dad bought a 160 gb external hard drive. It is very fast for a usb connection. Even though the port we use is not a fast usb connection according to the computer. I am sure that with firewire it would be very fast. I also just installed a new 120 gb hard drive about 45 mins ago!

I think my dad got his from best buy and it is a well known brand, i'll take a look tomorrow.

zeaq,
Sure, it's like another normal hard drive inside your computer... just a bit slower.

250GB for 130$ It's SATA though
SATA enclosures on ebay

OR

Western Digital Dual-Option 120GB External Hard Drive
80$ after 2 rebates
1 2
Better hurry on that one, rebates expire the 23 (IE: buy the drive before the 23 and you will be fine)

BTW, you are probably going to need a buddy in the states to ship this crap to you and fill out the rebate forums.

The chepaest way to get an external hard drive is to get an external enclosure, then put a drive in it. You will save at least $40, and get a better drive.

Thanks anywhere...I think it's a complicated to buy stuff on the net where shipping, customs tax is a hassel. And if the product has a defect,i'll be having some problems on shipping it back there to get a replacement.

Ciscokid,
Hehe... what is external enclosure?
