mmmm brakes

All right, time for a braking system overhaul. I have a warped front left rotor, and my rear rotors are grooved and on their last legs. This is all compounded by the fact that the warped left rotor has all but obliterated the pad life on that caliper. Mushy pedal feel... Yah, It's time for some upgrades and that yearly thread on brakes.

The UUC slotted rotors are a full 200$ more than the cheapest mail order OEM's (front & back), so I'm not sure, but I probably will do that. If not, I'm going OEM all around with no changes to the rest of my plan.

I like UUC's braided lines better than TMS's, with a difference of 20$, big deal anyways. I'm definitely getting them.

I've been through 2 sets of OEM pads, and I'm almost done with a set of hawk HPS's. I really liked how the HPS's preformed, they dusted maybe 20% less than stock (not much, but better than OEM), squeaked like a bitch, and stopped REALLY well. I liked them.

Questions:
Who has tried AXXIS Ultimate's? Better yet, who has tried both Hawk HPS and AXXIS Ultimates? What about EBC Green Stuff? Experiences? Comments?

If you have not tried a particular pad, please do not talk about it, or at least specifically state that you "heard they were X or Y."

I have not driven the hawk hps pads but from everyone I talk to they all say they are very good. My uncle who works for Rouche (sp?) told me that they used hawk pads on their new performance mustang and that they were the best pad they could find.

One otherthing I have heard about the slotted rotors is that you will probably go through pads a little faster.

I think your plan for the rotors and such sounds really good, good luck with it.

used axxis ultimate ceramic, amazing stopping power, did have dust, but it was weird, it wasnt dust that after a while it got black, it just made the rims look dull, but never too dark

i am running axxis ultimates. Great stopping power over OEM quality. And the stainless steel lines will definately stiffen up that brake pedal

Mintex 1166 are brilliant. They don't generate the brake dust that the OEM Pagid pads do and have great stopping ability.

I'm running Race Spec Hawk HPS's.

They stop on a DIME (like it almost hurts, it's crazy). However it gets kind of annoying... they squeak pretty bad because the sound deadening material was removed to improve the braking ability. So you can be pulling up slowly to a stop sign with all kinds of girls around and your car screeches.

Definately. There's a night and day difference in my pads and stock. I dare to say the stopping distance is maybe 75% of OEM.

no, SS brake lines will not affect your braking distance at all spielhur.

many aftermarket pads stop MUCH better than stock. the difference is amazing.

Oh really? What's the point of getting SS brake lines then?

Edit: I realize that could have sounded wrong. I didn't mean this sarcastically or anything, I'm just curious, haha, sorry for the wording.

Stainless brake lines are more rigid than OEM. When OEM stuff starts aging it swells & stretches - stainless won't do that. The only drawback to stainless lines is - they act like a hacksaw if you don't pay attention to routing. If they rub ANYTHING - wheels, calipers, backing plates - the stainless will saw through. (have seen racecars with framerails sawed into by brakelines)

SS lines are fine depending what type you get. try to get some lines that have a rubber coating on the outside of them if you are worried about them rubbing.

komodo, the point of them is that they stiffen up the brake pedal a bit more. not much, but a bit. they also will not swell. personally, as my car is being driven around the track the brakes will fade and since i do not heal/toe like most people, the brake pedal will be moved closer to the floor while my gas pedal is the same and i will be over rev matching. hopefully, along with stronger pads/rotors, the idea is to eliminate this feeling. SS lines are just another part that helps.
