Opinions on fan delete.

Im flushing my coolant today so i was thinking about just pulling the thing off, i know many recommend the low temp thermostat, but i dont feel its necessary with the outside tempertures starting to drop this time of year..

The car has had a new waterpump, thermostat, and radiator all withing the last 2 years, and the cooling system seems very sound, so i would rather not shell out the 90 bucks understeer wants for their low temp switch kit..

I will not be going with an electric fan either way though, total waste of money.

I say nay, but you can always throw the fan back on if you get into trouble. You really need the low temp switch, and at the very least, some Water Wetter (available at Pep Boys).

No way...that is crazy...it may be cool outside...but won't your engine heat up anyway fropm driving...

oh yeah I forgot a bunch of you kids don't like to drive your car....(see NYC to FL thread where 90% of UB members cringed like beeyotches at the tought of driving their cars outta state much less x country)
I say leave the fan and drive the shit outta your car 'til the wheels fall off!

I did the fan delete on my car and I'm in GA (wayyy south of you).

I've had it off for a few months now and never once has the temperature needle moved from dead center, even sitting in gridlocked traffic at 90+ degrees outside (very trying conditions).

However on the up-side, when I did it, I noticed a slight improvement in responsiveness of the gas pedal. The RPMs seem a lot freer now. It's not worth the $90 to buy a fan delete kit, however if you're in that part of the engine anyway and have everything you need, go for it. If I could go back and choose to do it again or keep my fan, I'd do the delete again. Nothing major, but it is noticeable.

Delmarco, the fan really is not needed unless you are sitting in gridlock in temps exceeding 100 degrees F. The summer is ending and i doubt its going to be over 80 degrees again this year.. so pulling it off makes more sense now that its gettng cooler.

Maybe you should look at the post i made in that thread, i was all for driving down to florida or whereever the fuck you roll now.

dude.. i am fucking poor, i cant go around randomly buying rims.

besides i mounted my contours w/ brand new tires last week.

You should buy them yourself though.. they would make good winter rims. Not a bad price at all either.

i would remove the fan, however, not taking the necessary precautions is asking for problems. ever replace a head gasket?

I didn't buy the kit, but I had a local mechanic (Karl, zeit00 on here) do it for me, and he found all the parts in the kit locally and saved about $20-30.
