E34?

So I just had my 92 325i jacked. Though Im not sure what to get to replace it. I kinda have a soft spot for the E34, even though its an old mans car. But I could put some sport rims on there and maybe tune it. Is the 5 series tuner friendly? Or should I stick with a 3 series?
Honest opinions Boys, please.

yes they are user friendly, but just imagining you, stick with the 3 series, faster, more menevurable(sp? way off), unless you get a 540 or an m5, get 3 series, also 5 series are kinda hard to find in stickshift(the e34 at least)

e34 535's are pretty nice cars, alot of them are 5 speed too.

Supposedly the m30 engine responds well to boost.

wrong forum btw.

well the common e34's, 525i and 530i are pretty rare to find in 5 speed, and the 540 is really rare to find in 6 spd.. i think(just a hunch) taht all 535's are 5 speed for some reason.. but whatever

actually i have already found a couple of 525's with a five speed, but that m30 engine only has 150 bhp. But one of them is a 95 525, what engine does that year have.

WTF, I just read at BMWinfo.com, that the 1995 5 series ( E39 ) doesnt even come in a 525i model, only a 525td or 525 tds, but Im looking at an add right now. Can anyone explain this?

alright guys here are some quick answers.

Sorry to hear about your ride getting stolen, that seriously sucks! the e34 is a great car and many people say that between the e39 and e34 the e34 is a much more solid feeling car with more of the sporty sould we expect out of any bmw. (handling characteristics as well as acceleration, most test drivers said the e39 felt less in touch with the road and much bigger) As far as being tuner friendly it all depends on which model you get. The M30 engine is very welcoming towards boost and is capable of 11psi on stock internals and injectors according to most reputable sources although i personally wouldn't run more than 8 without an upgrade inside. The 525 comes with the same engine out of a 3 series so parts for it are seemingly endless cause whatever you can do to the 325 powerplant you can obviously do to the 525. I'm not sure of the numbers on the 525 but i do know the 535 is stock 208 hp and 211 ft/lbs or close to that. talk to torque or some of the other guys about the 525 but from what i've heard its a pig until you get it on the freeway where the weight is less of an issue.

Not necesarily faster. i have witnesses of me trashing on a e46 328 as well as a bunch of 325's. Get a chip and lightweight flywheel and you'll be movin just behind a stock wrx with the 535 (m30). the 5 speed can be hard to come by but isn't that difficult if you look in the right places as chrisdoesn'tknow stated.

That is a false hunch there. i have seen many 535s with the automatic transmission, but they are much easier to find in 5 speeds than there slightly underpowered cousin the 525 and the 540 is super rare to find in a manual and i believe they made a 5 and a 6 speed for the e34 models.(get the six or don't get it at all if you go with the 540)

I think we are a bit confused here, the m30 is a 3.5L I6 that comes stock with 208hp and 211 ft/lbs. the 525 came with the m20 from 89-91 and also came with the m50 which made around 168hp and 164 ft/lbs and was a 24v inline 6. the m30 was only a 12v.
the 1995 525 is most likely the m50 engine as the m20 motors were not being used at that point

Pre 1992 E34 525 has the m20 engine.

1992 and after E34 525 has the m50 engine.

The only 525's worth getting are the m50 ones..
