I think that was over $1899. The 600 was over 1500.

Portability was my big issue. Ive worked with laptops for quite awhile now at different jobs and I bought my own VAIO last august.I got a VGN-S150 which is outdated by now im sure but it weighs just 4 pounds! I love it's small size and portability, yet seems large because of the 13.3 inch widescreen with X-Brite technology. The screen is amazing, portability is amazing.

From my experience dell laptops are mediocre at best. Compaq, HP, and Toshiba suck. I know a lot of people with thema nd they are all disappointed, including my sister who bought hers and now feels hers in inadequete.

If you can't get a VAIO, go for a IBM Thinkpad T series.

mmmm, what dells have you seen?
i love my 700m... the only bad is the keyboard... its not fullsized, its a little more compact than a desktop keyboard

i think our screens were the same... i think it was a widescreen x-brite or something... it is i think 15 inches... so sick

A thousand + on an XP notebook is IMO a total loss/waste. The present xp with registry as a system core can not ever be fixed. Registry edits by e-mail and web site exposure is a monumental defect. It is just like Linux Mac or Unix users allowing root editing permissions to anything that can see your IP or e-mail you.

mac laptops are ok. Pretty fast, but from what I have seen from them, besides internet use and common things like word processor, they aren't that good. I would go with a Dell or Toshiba.

Ive had an apple powerbook G4 never having used a Mac before in my life for about 2 years now.. The biggest decision for me was not getting popups, viruses, and the blue screen of death. All that junk. Have never had any of those even once! I absolutely love it.

I suggest an apple because:

1. VERY RELIABLE
2. You can still do all your internet and word processing (I've got the microsoft office and its pretty much the same thing as windows.. Just different graphically if anything) And there are a bunch of awesome little programs that you will use all the time as well.
3. If you are a gamer, there are games out there, but limited compared to PC's, so thats the only major bummer for me. But I somewhat try to have a life and save time lol
4. MAC is growing. At least I have noticed that. And if the computer is growing, so will the number of available programs. I think its a wise investment

For example, my two friends and I had to buy laptops for architecture school in 2003. I got mine in december and they got theirs in january. Both got PC's and I got the Apple.
My problems (mechanically, programs, etc.) - 0 unless you count the little scratch in the back
Theirs - Broken cd/dvd drives, 2 crashes, lost data, mouse with a mind of its own, viruses and popups up the butt despite all the anti-spyware software, constant problems with drivers, just to mention a few.

Conclusion: They both are getting an apple in the very near future. So unless you are a very very very patient person, and games and access to tens of thousands of progarms that you dont need are your life, then get a PC. Get an Apple if you want something to last without much hassle

i didnt click that link about "why switch" but i am sure that it is completely one sided...

from what i see, the apple os advantage is the pop ups, spyware, and possiblity to spyware...but what does most of that come from? looking thru weird shit on the net and giving out your email, ect ect ect

the real reason why whiteshark likes the mac is because he hates deleting all the spyware he gets from all the naughty sites he visits

but seriously, i ever get pop ups these days... i did back in the day, but nothing now...

no.
its plain and simple.
for a person on a budget, such as a student, i think a pc with windows is a great decision, unless if you want an underpowered mac.

a pc such as a dell will give you more bang for your buck.

if you are afraid you will get spyware, virus, ect ect ect and have to deal with that, go with mac.

did i mention the software that is out there for windows based computers over mac os based computers?
