I totally suggest Apple. If you get sick of registry problems, almost all notebooks cannot be switched to Linux or BSD. Emperor Linux is nice, but not as versatile

dont get an apple if you are on a budget.

dells are nice... i got a sick inspiron 700m with upgrades, but with 20 percent off..and after tax and everything, it was like 1100.... there are always deals though... this thing is sick.... very light and small... widescreen too, and the best screen i have seen. it has like no glare... its screen is super reflective, so dust will show up really easy, but its amazing...

not the best computer for computer gaming because of the video card...but i can still play counter strike perfectly... cs source, not going to happen

but i dont really play games, so it works great!

Im definatley pro apple. I have had many of macs and have never had problems with them. Never gotten a virus, never gotten a popup, zero spyware. I am not really a computer gamer, so it never bothered me that I couldn't play games on it. But as far as ease of use goes, and reliability, you can't get better than apple IMO. And you do not have to be a complete computer geeke in order to keep everything running smooth and clean. My mom has my old mac and she never has problems with it.

Not having to run anti virus and REGEDIT and anti spy ware and anti ad ware has been such a relief - there are no words. I can open any e-mail attachment, see any web site without having to fix things after. Ever This is important to me cause the internet is more important to me than gaming

Whatever you choose, challenge yourself by creating a seperate partiton for some flavor of Linux to learn and play with in your spare time.

Yup - for older PC I like Red Hat, newer, I suggest Gentoo, Novelle SuSE or Slackware

If money's not an issue, I love the sony vaio laptops. If it is a factor, dells give you a lot of computer for the price.

For Mac folks, try Yellow Dog- very similar to Red Hat.

I'd say Toshiba, Sony, Dell.

Apple, but I've never used one... but will def consider getting one if Longhorn is junk when it comes out nest year.

Just bought a Dell 9300 yesterday with their 600$ off promotion. Totaled right at a grand, scalable to some extent, widescreen, free integrated wireless upgrade...

...now it just has to get built and shipped.
