Arg! help plz, 1993 hood latch broken

hello everyone,
this is my first posting and appearently a doozy. I have a 1993 325is with a broken hood release, I have searched online until my eyes are bleeding.
I need to know if there is a way without going to a dealer to get my hood open as my release cable has broken somewhere between firewall and latch (under hood). i have already removed inside kick panel and checked there the cable is intact to the firewall, tried removing grill on driver side but cant find anything to get to and go figure car broke down last friday on way to work, had to tow it home.
Someone,,anyone,,,,,,help plz
