idling

I have noticed recently my 330ci seems to be idling a little rough, only while I am in gear at a light. Once I start to increase the throttle immediately she runs just fine....any ideas. Could it be a fuel issue, I use 93 octane, but for awhile I used 87 (about 1 month).

Hello Again,
Just i wanted to inform you that just today i repaired the Rough Idle problem in my car and it turned out that the problem was caused by the Oil Breather and a plastic air tubes connected to the Air Mass Sensor.
Now the car is running Smooth, you might need to check those.
Hope this will help,
Regards,

BMW recommend at least 91 octane as a bare minimum. Having said that, it could be the vanos unit on the blink or the cam sensor. I had the same problem on my 323 (99) but it was something I came to live with. No-one (even BMW) could actually diagnose it. The car went on to do 212000 miles!! :-)

That depends on your model. The E36 was told to use 89 octane or better. As such most just used 91 as the standard. BMW states that using anything less then 89 can cause problems with your O2 sensors and your Catalytic Converter. The extend of this im not certain, but it is a fact that is listed in my owners manual.

I dont believe anyone mentioned the Idle Control Valve. Mine was stalling when i didnt give it gas and when we replaced the ICV it solved the problem. A dirty or worn out ICV may be the cause of the issue.
