523i M52 2.5l missfire and stalling

I recently purchased a new toy, a 1996 523i. She does appear to have a problem though. when accelerating the engine feels lumpy, like its missfiring and you can tell there is a great loss of power. She also stall very easy at low revs (could be my driving lol) but what concerns me the most is the engine cutting out when driving, for instance breaking for a roundabout, dipping the clutch and when the revs drop the engine sometimes cuts out. this is very frustrating and my got the steering is heavy when the engine isnt running!
I have serviced the car and this has not improved things. The computer says it is averaging 23.6mpg which seems a little low, i would expect it to be closer to 28.
I have read though many threads and it appears to be 1 of 3 problems;

A: Cam Sensor
B: Lambda Sensor
C: Bad terminal connections

Could anyone shed any more light on this problem, Thanks Steve
