Full Test: 2008 BMW 135i Coupe

BMW shoehorns the killer 300-horsepower twin-turbocharged engine from the 335i under the hood of the diminutive 1 Series rear-drive coupe, creating the 2008 BMW 135i. It's super, but not super size.

I was off and I drove by the dealership yesterday and it looked pretty darn vicious!

OK... So I drove it today

The car is very torque and you can tell it's faster than the 3-series. The brakes and acceleration both feel great! I really like how on the interior BMW did it so that the center console is tilted towards the driver again. The thing I didn't like is the suspension, the car feels really high, on the 3's I feel comfortable throwing it around on a turn, the M3's ask you to throw them around in turns, but I didn't in the 1, it would most definetely need to be dropped.

But I don''t know, I mean that's just how I felt about it. Would I buy one, maybe in a year, but if the 3 series coupe is only a few bucks more in the same range of options then I'd do a 3-series

That's exactly my sentiment. I was never crazy about its looks. If you like getting around town in a small bullet, then I guess the 1 is the way to go. But I'm a big fan of the 335i, and like the editor in the article said, after adding options on the 135i, it's already at the base price of the 335i. Granted it's a wee bit quicker than the 3, you're getting a lot more car with the latter. I was however, shocked to find out that the 135 is heavier than the e36
