Question 6-speed swap

Hey guys, a little new to this place, I was hoping I could find a little technical advice. I really wanted a sports car with 6 gears, so after owning my '03 330Ci (5 speed) for a year I decided to buy a 6 speed. Got it for a decent price from Bavarian Auto Recyclers in CA. The problem is, I jumped into this project without doin any research and I can't find anybody who's swapped a manual for a manual. Anybody know what I need to change out a 5 speed manual in an E46 with a 6 speed manual from an E46? I have no idea if the shift linkages are a different length, the drive shaft is shorter, or anything. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure on specifics but I'm guessing it will bolt up and you will have little modification to do, I can't say about the drive shaft but I'm guessing that the parts from the later 6 speed e46 would make everything work if the existing hardware doesn't do it. Its also probably easy to pull the engine with the trans then swap them and drop it back in.

Open up 2 web pages of realoem.com and select 2 different e46's and compare part numbers. If their different then youve got a problem, but I bet that everythings the same.

Thanks guys. I find that all the part numbers are identical (if I'm looking in the right place of course). I'm gonna give it a try in a month or so when it starts warming up. Wish me luck.. lol.
