Replacing valve covers, leaking oil

So i bought a 2000 740i sport back in july...amazing car for how big it is, but i had a mechanic take a quick look at it and my valve covers are very slowly leaking oil. i guess its a known issue?

ive heard things about having to replace the entire valve cover or just the gasket. what shall i do? i found a full walkthrough on e38.org, but im still not sure if i should do gasket or the entire cover. doesnt seem like too much work. probably get it done in one 8 hour day.

i also have to do the belt for the motor...is that a tough one? or just a tensioner shoved down under the motor. ive done belts and valve gaskets before on a datsun, isuzu and a 72' 2002 bimmer, but not on an M62 V8 with no room whatsoever...

any thoughts?

its gunna be the first big project for me. can't wait!

Lightbulb Hello

I'm new to this community and have a few questions. I'm hoping I'll find some answers from you. I have a 98 740il and I need to change the valve covers gaskets. I've never done this before and I'm wondering if it's an easy job or if any of you have any tips for me.
