Question Delayed Shifting

Hey everone happy new year!

I just have a quick question reguarding the tranny fluid. After I let the car sit overnight and go to use the next morning the shifting seems to be delayed (auto trans) Ive heard this is normal but I just want tio make sure I dont need fluid. 1995 325is 114k

or you sure because it rides fine after I drive it a little bit someone told me that it is because the fluid drains out of the torque converter overnight also the transmission has been rebuilt

the delay happen in the morning only (when the gearbox is cold ), once ur car become hot it will be fine ... gearbox need's replace, oil or filter will do nothing sorry to till you that ... or you can replace the clutches (valve body) iam not sure of its name but it needs an expert on auto trans coz bmw gear box is too Sensitive
take care ur gearbox will die withen one month try not to accelerate to hard when the car is cold

max79, what the hell are you talking about, his gearbox will only last a month? like your friend said, its probably the fluid, try changing it, regardless of bmw's 'lifetime fluid'

with replacing the tranny fluid, when the the previous owner had the car he gave me full mantainance records and the about 92K (now 114K) the tranny was rebuild complete including the torque converter so when this was done I assume that the fluid was already replaced so i think it should be good would unpluging the computer actually help? where is that located?

since it works when its warm, i doubt it has anything to do w/electronics. maybe he didnt use BMW fluid or didnt top it off and now its making a difference

Well it was done at BMW so im sure they used the accurate amount but it not exactly a delay it just it takes a little longer to shift to the next gear and i have to press the the gas harder to get out of the gear

believe me guys this trans will stop shifting withen one month, listen drive ur car slowly ur gear must shift between 1.6 to 2 rpm more than that proplem is there but oil and filter will do nothing if clutches is already damage sound like changing engine oil after ring piston is damaged???????? iam 100% sure of that ..

You can't be serious, can you?

Ant, I wouldn't worry about it. Check the fluid levels and then go from there. Absolute transmission failure is highly unlikely.

The only problem with your transmission is the internal seals are leaking causing poor pressure for gear changing.
As this BMW bulletion reads:
2. After the vehicle is parked for an extended time (for example overnight) and a delay of 2 to 3 seconds is experienced from the time gear selection is made until gear engagement occurs. If transmission serial number is less than 4834735 install latest seal kit P/N 24 27 1 423 311

To install this seal kit the trans must be removed, disassembled and seals replaced. Something for a dealer to do. My e34 has had this same problem, but only when going into reverse. I bought the entire seal kit, then the problem went away and hasent comeback yet.

Try dealing with it for a week of two, if it doesnt go away your looking at paying about a grand for the fix. And as for that rebuild that was done to the trans, are you sure it was a complete rebuild or not just a new torque converter because BMW doesnt rebuild trans's, they only replace them. You might get a rebuild at a trans shop but no dealer.
