Exclamation HELP PLEASE Ignition Lock Cylinder

Hey Guys !

So I bought my 2001 330I a few months ago and didn't get a second key, big deal I'll just go to the dealer and get a new one ordered...WRONG! Well I went and the BMW dealer ordered me a new key with the cars VIN, and it doesn't fit! They're trying to tell me that the previous owner changed the ignition cylinder and in order to get new keys I would have to get a new one... Obviously I'm not retarded, you can just get new keys for the new cylinder right ? Are they trying to fuck me over, whats going on? I really need help and advice, perhaps even from a BMW tech. PLEASE !

Thanks Guys

first, does your key fit into your doors(and trunk?) if it does, then they are wrong, i doubt the previous owner changed all the lock cylinders. now, in the dealer's defense, all they do is send the order out to germany and they ship em a key. with my brother, one time he ordered a key and it didnt even work. for me, i ordered a key and it wasnt EWS programmed so they had to get me another one, but they were pretty good about it. i also ordered a lock cylinder from them b/c mine was broken, but i obviously ordered one that already fit my keys

How Much?

Just out of interest how much do BMW charge in the U.S. for a new key?

For my E46 2002 they want to charge 100 in the U.K. !!!!
Roughly $200.

The 2001 has the laser cut key doesnt it... See at least with the older bmws there is like a lock cylinder kit that you can use to fix it (bmw dealers are the only ones supposed to have it). That's weird that you have to have a field engineer look at it though. I guess they're going to just try and match a key to the new lock.
