Service engine soon light

So for about 9 months now the 330's service engine light sooon has been on.

OF course my parents didnt do anything about it.

had the codes read today.

P0369-Camshaft position sensor
p050 Idle control system malfunction
p0128 coolant temp below thermostat
P0313 Misfire

so i was told that Coolant temp below thermostat is a regular bmw fault, not a big deal.

as for misfire it could have been due to lack of fuel while driving on empty.

but the other two..idk.

The light is turned off now, how long before it would come back on if there was problems with the idle control or crankshaft sensor?

after i had the lights reset i drove the car, took it above 5k almost to redline, figuring that might set off the sensor errors again. nothing

so..ideas?

btw the car seems to run better after the lights were reset.

If the CPS was shot, then I doubt the car would start. So it 's probably the wiring harness, maybe an intermittent issue. Check to see if it's making good contact, any fraying, etc...

I don't know if camshaft position sensors go bad progressively, or if they are either good or bad. That would be the first thing to look at. Check the wiring or even have it replaced. I can see more than one code going away after you resolve the CPS issue.

^^ That's not an uncommon stance to take in other countries, especially ones in which labor is not very expensive. However, at around $80 to $90 an hour for dealership labor (which they inflate the actual labor figures -- why would it take 30 minutes to change a light bulb!?), we preach that going to the stealer should be considered the last resort.

Yo Numark: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?p=4531699

And also: http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...-7-518-628-M36

And for metalmukisha to get a picture, the sensor is $108 shipped. The job is a simple task. This is what someone posted on E46fanatics:

Numark, I would still first check the wires and connections. Sometimes, however, $100 is worth the peace of mind in my opinion.
