Wow, this thread is still going. Anyways, I found the best shit ever to clean wheels so forget about the dish soap. It is made by Greased Lightning and comes in a Purple bottle. I got some a t Wal-Mart cuz I wanted to give it a try and I swear by this stuff. It comes as a concentrate so you have to dilute it (about 1 part degreaser to 10 parts water). I also had some work done on my car at a European Specialist and they told me that its the only cleaner they use as well. So give it a shot, the stuff is cheap and it works wonders.

I've stuck rims in the dishwasher. Works not too bad.
Also dishwashers clean engine parts pretty darn good.

Not a bad concept for tires. But I would NEVER use that. The chance of the detergent splattering up onto the colour is too excellent and because dish-washing detergent is so difficult and rough it will damage your colour. It would be a smart concept if you were to take off each rim and clean them away from the car. . . . . . .
