Question ASC button confusion

Ok, so I'm new to the Bimmer scene (bought my first one on 19/5/09), and this website....so first of all, hello to all of you!

Second, I've read the manual for my 318 Ti compact and it said the traction control will be on every time you start the engine until you press the ASC button and a light will light up on the display. This light (and I don't know what it looks like by the way!) never seems to come on! Does this mean something bad has happend or is it more likely that the bulb has gone etc.?

All help appreciated!

Hard call on that. Car might not be equipped, light might be burned out, fuse could be bad. Computer may not see an input and be disabling it, of course in that case you MAY get a warning light or a code. Is there even an ASC button on the dash, does it do anything? might look like a wheel spinning, since bmw uses more pics on the European market cars.

Most electrical things are aren't they!? lol I thought it might not be equipped but then why would it have the button? I have seen a light come on the dash for a few seconds on engine start up that could be it (a wheel with a number of small rectangles all around it!?) I have no warning lights on and thus no error codes would come up. My ASC button is on the dash, tucked down next to the steering column by the drivers door.

The only thing I can think of from what you suggested is that a fuse has gone, or that it's not equipped (but again, surely it would have a blank instead of the actual ASC button?). I'll go check the fuse as soon as I get time....

Cheers for the suggestions bud!

This is not in the least helpful for this thread, but just for the record, ASC and Traction Control are two different things. If your car has both (depends on model) if you bump the ASC button, it switches to traction control. This is normally used in deep snow. If you press and hold the ASC button for several seconds, it turns off both ASC and traction control. This is used for burnouts and assorted misbehaviors.
