Inherited a 84' 533i....Value?

Hello all,

My wife inherited her fathers 533i. We would like to keep the car but there are 3 sisters involved and the easiest thing to keep the peace would be to sell it. I was hoping some of you experts could give me an idea of what this car would be worth. The car has been garaged for the last 10+ years the tabs on the plates are dated 1999. I would rate it as in very good condition not prefect but pretty darn nice. It is Black with tan leather interior. It shows 122k for mileage. Automatic trans. The paint is nice and shiny, the seats are clean with no tears. carpet is good. sunroof and power everything. Any advice would be much appreciated. Is there any options that I should look for that would make this car more desirable? I just want to make sure we get a fair price for the car because at this point I have no idea what to ask for it.

Thanks
Jon

KBB isn't kind, the furthest they go back is 91 and one in excellent condition is only $2350usd.

That one is borderline classic in what looks to be excellent condition, however I still wouldn't see it bringing more than $3000 on a good day to the right buyer (private sale). I've seen/bought them myself in comparable condition/vintage for under $2000. As aggravating as it is (or for me, isn't), they really just aren't worth that much.........yet. Keep in that shape/mileage for another 15-20 years and then you have something. Until then though it's just a old German sedan that happens to be in really nice shape.

Maybe comb through the local classifieds and check online sources to find a reasonable price and offer the others a 1/3 each of what you find? If they're concern is it's worth a pile of cash though. Right now it isn't

Unfortunately for sellers we are in a time in history where prices are way down. Of course what that means for a buyer like me is that I can buy a nice late eighties and early nineties 5 series cars for somewhere around 2000 dollars. I am hoping to take a nice looking 1991 525i for a drive later this week and the seller is only asking 2500 dollars (which very possibly means he will take 2000).

Your car is certainly very low mileage, and for many cars that would be a great selling point. For a BMW not so much. My 89 525i has 300 000 km on it and uses no oil and runs strong. I was gonna do a leak down test on the engine and after driving it the tech agreed with me that there was no need.

What you have is a driver that will give you or one of your sisters great and long service. Work something out to keep the car in the family. You will not regret it.
