This is my first time posting, but I could use a little advice if anyone has experience in changing out the oil pan on an M30 engine. I bought my car this summer, and when I rebuilt the front brake calipers, I decided to go ahead and change the oil, not being sure when it was done last. As the last of the oil was draining, I notice drops forming in a line on the bottom of the pan, right where the plug is threaded. Yes, it was cracked.
I have the Bentley pub, and have researched some of the posts on different forums. My question, should I go ahead and rent an engine lift, or is it better to attempt this using bottle jacks from below. I also have a 2 1/2 and 3 ton floor jacks, and two sets of jack stands, plus a scissor jack from my truck. Also, could the engine and suspension be supported from below, and then just drop the cross member to remove the pan? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
One other thing - I don't have a garage, so I'm working outside on the driveway, which shouldn't make too much difference, at least until it starts getting colder in the evening.
