Opinion Desperately Needed.

hey there i just wanted everyones opinion on this matter. im here in the u.s. california to be exact. i just picked up a blk/blk 2000 528i sport/navigation for 6k with 156kmi on the ticker. body and paint in great shape. car comes with some quirks but at that price, it should be expected. consider everything else not mentioned to in good working order. here's my dilemma. back windows regulators are down. door seals need replacing. windshield needs replacement along with seal. driver side headlight needs replacement (i would like 01+ facelift so i would end up buying a complete set driver and passenger) wheel bearings probably need replacement. engine runs strong but now starting to see small coolant leak so entire cooling system replacement is probably needed. stereo sucks. driver side door panel needs to be replaced. now i know this may seem like an obivious answer to some but i would like to know if i should invest in fixing all of those things? im considering reselling for more money or trading in for an 01 530i sport without navigation avg 110k mi and spending a totalof 10k. if i did the trade in i'm williing to spend another 3k. so is it best to fix this car or upgrade up knowing that i would probably be redoing the cooling system on another car anyway? i hope this made sense. all opinions on this matter would greatly be appreciated. thanks

umm..I would say upgrade the the 530 if you can.

Although, what you listed is basically most of what will go wrong with the car. But bad wheel bearings means its been driven hard more then likely...so bushings will prolly have to replaced soon.

I would say look for a less harrased 530, especially with the crappy roads we have in CA, your going to want a stable car with good bushings.

sell it and look for one in better shape IMO

I don't think this poster will be back, I know he got his answers elsewhere (he also got chewed out for shouting over there). But on the front wheel bearings, it's not uncommon for them to go early on an e39. They're a somewhat crappy design, and I've heard of them going as early as 60-70k. Not terribly hard to replace though.

All things considered in this situation, one would spend almost as much to repair & maintain this vehicle, as they would buying a newer 530 outright. The latter would be more up to date with better features, and less hassle. IMO anyways.
