I know I haven't been very active recently due to work and such... but recently whenever I got some free time, I've been working on a new site. Do you guys remember this thread from a long time ago:
(if you don't remember, check that thread out really quick)
I've actually gone through with that, and come up with the name Desktop Nexus. It's going to expand beyond just cars and hopefully grow to be the biggest wallpaper site on the internet.
Now, no one except a few of my real-life friends know about this, and I'm keeping it very secretive until it's launched for a reason. This site has a lot of innovative features that no one else is doing, and I don't want any copycat websites to spring up before we get rolling, haha. The cool part is right now, Desktop Nexus is the most technologically advanced wallpaper gallery in the entire world. No other wallpaper gallery out there has the features this does, like member moderation, tagging, social bookmarking, member submission, rss, flexible navigation, etc. It's focused around the community, where people publically share and rate wallpapers. On the single wallpaper view page, try clicking the big preview picture... it has a really cool lightbox effect. People can easily use these wallpapers in their MySpace account or IM them to a friend- there's advanced web-coding throughout such as an AJAX login page (kinda like Google does for a lot of their sites, where it never reloads the actual pages, it just does a lot of things in the background). It will also (not yet, but soon) support individual webmasters adding the strip of wallpaper thumbnails (like on the UB homepage) to your personal websites, with simple copy/paste code.
I really think Desktop Nexus will be successful, and I hope to make it the successor of car-wallpapers. Now... if it's not completely done yet, why this thread? I'd like to give you guys a sneak peak and get some feedback so far.
A few parts of it aren't complete yet, such as the submit wallpaper page and the header color is way off, but it's about 90% done.
Head on over to http://cars.desktopnexus.com
and check it out. If it pops up and asks you for a username and password, it's "desktop" for the username, and "nexus" for the password. The password is to prevent people from stumbling across it before it's done and stealing ideas, but I obviously trust you guys.
And for one of my next projects after this, I have ideas for a complete overhaul and upgrade of UB, but when that time comes, I want to first post all my ideas up here and get feedback on what you guys think.
What do you guys think of http://www.desktopnexus.com
