A few cents over

This morning I stopped by Dunkin Donuts to get a coffee, a sandwich, and 2 donuts. Total was $6.03. With all the change sitting in the tip cup on the counter, the goddamn clerk couldn't reach in and grab 3 pennies . . no, she just had to give me the 97 cents change:angry

I'm the kind of person that hates weighting myself down with loose change in my pockets, but I'm forced to carry some around (when I remember), because stores will not examine how purchases ring out. Why can't they lower things just a bit so the total price doesn't come to $4.04, or $10.02??:ranting I mean, I guess this would be unrealistic, but I just wish. I think my gas mileage has suffered because of all the weight of coins in my car.

And they're never prepared to give you the change back . . they'll give you a bunch damn nickels because they don't have any quarters in the till, or they'll give you back 17 singles because they don't have a 10 and a 5. Then they look at you like "is 20 the smallest you have?". :gun :bash :throwrock :stick

Dsky - get yourself a "debit card" from your bank THEN use it at stores like a credit card. If they ask credit or debit? Tell them credit.
1st) you get to use it with the IDIOTS looking for change and you have your usual "pocket weights worth"
#2) When you use it as a credit card - you don't have to use a PIN#, just your signature - BUT the revenge factor = it costs them the headaches of reconciling because there's a debit card in their credit card tallies + it costs THEM not YOU the bank processing fees.

If they want to hire IDIOTS it's going to cost them

Dudesky 07-07-2006 08:39 AM

^^^Well, that's the other part of things . . I have debit cards, but often the crappy machines are either busted or too slow. Maybe it's me. Maybe I'm a Type A personality :doh

c1apton 07-07-2006 08:44 AM

No you're missing the point - when you make a purchase - USE the card. Screw the machines...lol Make the idiot behind the counter do the extra work scanning the card, extra steps through the "till and back up the line. That's the fastest way to hassle the IDIOT who's too stupid to give you correct change. When you tell them it's a credit card they have to hand ring it through - no PIN#s from you - just a signature.

I hate paying for stuff with cash or credit. RFID tags ftw.

witeshark 07-07-2006 09:48 AM

I always use my card. I have the same 10 or 20 (not sure which) in my pocket for months :lol

what i like to do, every once in a while, is get a 100 dollar bill and then buy a candy bar with it, and have them count out 99 dollars in change.. lol

If you wanna have some fun, try this sometime:
Carry around a counterfiet highlighter, the ones they use to check if the money is real or not. When they swipe yours to check, take the money they give you in change and swipe it. Lol. I'm telling you, it's priceless!

hahah.. sorry, I just thought that was funny....

But seriously.... you know why there is that friggin $2.99 and not an even $3.00? Back when (and I could be wrong on the store's name) Macy's came about, they were concerned with thier cashiers stealing money, so they changed the pricing so that the cashiers would have to open thier tills to make change, making it a little harder to slip the customers cash into thier pockets.

Interesting, isn't it?

Dough

when I sometimes am cashier at the pharmacy I don't pull crap like that, I just hate the impatient fuckers that can't wait more than 5 minutes for their prescriptions and stand at the counter getting in the way of other polite customers.

Heh, I bought dinner tonight, and my change was 99 cents. She actually gave me 99 cents, and I stood there staring at her, thinking of this thread. I got a penny, added it to the change, handed it back to her and got a dollar. Meh.

Dudesky 07-09-2006 11:58 AM

:uphaha THAT'S what I'm talking about . . with that in mind, I love places that have that "give a penny, take a penny" container by the register.

CAPiTUL 07-09-2006 12:55 PM

another reason they keep it at, say, 2.99 is marketing. Oddly enough, the average person doens't associate that with being 3 dollars, rather they take it as meaning 2 dollars. Same thing with gas - it is 2.819. People say it is 2.81, when in actuality, it is pretty much 2.82.

celsdogg 07-09-2006 08:23 PM

^^^ yeah. i hate that crap. i always round up, just to make sure im covered. and i really have the gas thing with the extra 9 thousandths
